Flag Football

September/October 2009

Cale decided to try out flag football this year.  We heard of this great program called Upwards that some friends of ours also take part in.  It is a Christian outreach tool and it is nice to know that the schedule is set and the times are set.  This was Cale's first organized sport.  Mark decided to coach too.  Well, actually, he said he'd be willing to help, maybe assist, but they needed him as a head coach.  God was gracious, though, and paired him up with an experienced assistant coach, who happened to be the person we knew!  The organizers had no idea though!

September 12, Cale's first game.  The program even has cheerleaders!

That first game the boys were pretty disorganized, but they steadily improved through their season of 6 games.

Every game they announce the coaches and kids for each team and they run through a tunnel, just like in real football games.

And, number 49, Caaaaaaaaaaale!

October 17, Cale's last game. He's scored a few touchdowns during the season and finally got to play quarterback for a few plays!   He did a great job!

The teams are small, just 6-8 boys each.  We just had 6 and didn't ever have to sit anyone out.
Each week there are bible verses that the kids memorize and at each game the kids get different colored stickers as attaboys for things like good defense, offense, sportsmanship, Christ-likeness, etc.  It is a neat program.
