After the asparagus festival and the gem factory, we zipped over to see Silver Lake. It is a lake that is really close to Lake Michigan's coast. There are dunes in between. You can see them rise down the road here.
Driving around the lake, you can see the dunes across it.
The road we took ends at the dunes and you can climb up this one to get to them with your own off road vehicles. Not our mini-van though!
For years Mark has teased me with taking a dune ride but we've never done it. So we decided to go for it. Not brave enough to drive our own dune buggy, we rode the Mac Woods ones that come with drivers!
The kids love it! It was really fascinated to see all this sand and hear how it moves!
We stopped over on the Lake Michigan side of the dunes to take pictures.
A little bit chilly yet.
On the dunes still, looking back at Silver Lake.
Now, these are real fulgurites. Not the pretty ones that you see in 'Sweet Home Alabama.'
Fulgurites are formed when lightning strikes the sand and melts it. Still neat looking.
It was a fun ride.
